Conversion of prior proximal femoral fracture fixation to total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a fairly common and successful procedure that is necessitated by various modes of failure. A posterior or anterolateral surgical approach for the procedure has been well described. The anterior approach for THA has increased in popularity. The approach allows for supine positioning and facilitates live fluoroscopic imaging. This video reviews the outcomes and complications of conversion THA. In addition, the video demonstrates the case study of a patient who underwent conversion of a cephalomedullary nail to THA via the anterior approach. The video details the preoperative workup, equipment considerations, intraoperative setup, and the surgical procedure from start to finish. Preoperative and postoperative radiographs and clinical follow-up results are presented.
