In the past decade, the diagnosis and management of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) has increased in importance. Open and arthroscopic procedures have been described for the management of FAI. The mini-open approach is ideal for the management of FAI, allowing for acetabular rim trimming and osteochondroplasty of the femur. The approach is performed via an internervous plane, which minimizes muscle and nerve damage. Moreover, the approach is simple, does not require the use of traction, and is associated with decreased surgical time compared with arthroscopy. Many studies have been published on open management of FAI.

The bikini anterior approach, which originally was described for hip arthroplasty, has resulted in excellent outcomes in patients with FAI. To the knowledge of the authors of this video, no studies have described the bikini approach for the management of FAI. This video presents the case study of a patient treated via the bikini anterior approach, which resulted in minimal soft-tissue damage and improved aesthetic outcome without increased surgical complexity.
