Chapter 06 Video 1: Low Back Stress Injuries in the Junior Tennis Player

August 01, 2016

Contributors: Neeru Jayanthi, MD

Low back stress injuries in the junior tennis player are often a risk related to the amount of lumbar extension during the acceleration phase or loading phases of the serve. As you will notice, a junior tennis player, in order to get extra spin or top spin, people will often arch their back more and get more than 20° of lumbar extension as you notice right here. This can pose an additional risk when there is some lateral flexion, which can result in pars stress fractures.
