Eligibility Requirements for International Orthopaedic Resident Membership 

Pre-screen Requirements: To comply with its legal obligations, AAOS will check the names of interested applicants against the United States Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (“OFAC”) Sanctions List. Individuals listed on the OFAC Sanctions List are not eligible for membership. Additionally, individuals from countries against which OFAC has issued comprehensive sanctions (including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea Region of Ukraine) are not eligible for membership. The completion of this form is required in order to be considered for AAOS Membership. Fill out the prescreen form here. 

Once approved, you must meet the following eligibility criteria to complete your online application: 

  • Be a physician residing outside of the United States or Canada who has commenced the study of orthopaedics; has the intention of applying for International Resident Member 
  • Be enrolled in an orthopaedic residency program recognized by the national orthopaedic organization of the country in which the residency program is located, or who has successfully completed such an orthopaedic residency and is in a non-U.S. or Canadian fellowship program 
  • Comply with the Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and policy statements as adopted by the AAOS Fellowship and Board of Directors

What You Need To Know When Applying for International Resident Membership

After you complete the pre-screening process and are approved, please include a Curriculum Vitae with your application submission. International Resident Membership is held for a five-year maximum following residency.

Your AAOS Membership runs the calendar year, January 1 to December 31. Membership dues are automatically billed every October for the upcoming membership cycle.
