Candidate Membership (ABOS, AOBOS, RCPSC eligible): Open to graduates of U.S. and Canadian allopathic or osteopathic orthopaedic residency programs or subsequent fellowship program

  • Recruitment Period: Between April 2021 and September 2021 and year-round for non-members who are eligible
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • Available to graduates immediately upon completion of approved U.S./Canadian Orthopaedic residency programs or subsequent fellowship programs who intend to pursue certification by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS), the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (AOBOS), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
    • Compliance with the AAOS Standards of Professionalism.
    • U.S. and Canada Trained Surgeons: During your last year of training, watch for an email to opt-in via the AAOS Resident/Fellowship Transition Online Form. If you miss the recruitment period, contact our Customer and Member Services Team or call 1-800.626.6726.

Associate Orthopaedic Candidate Membership (Internationally trained): Open to physicians who have successfully completed the study of orthopaedics in an international orthopaedic residency program who are licensed to practice in the US and/or Canada.

  • Application Period: For Internationally trained orthopaedic physicians who are licensed to practice in the US and/or Canada: November 1, 2020 through August 31, 2021. Apply in 2020 and receive up to 2 months free! It is encouraged to apply early to maximize savings. Click here to apply.
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • Available to graduates who received training through international residency programs outside of U.S. & Canada.
    • Maintain a full unlimited license to practice in the U.S.
    • Compliance with the AAOS Standards of Professionalism.

Membership Dues: 2021 Dues for Candidate Membership and Associate Candidate membership is $477.

Membership Cycle: Your AAOS membership runs the calendar year, January 1 – December 31. Candidate membership is held for a 5-year maximum following residency, including post-graduate fellowship(s). Membership dues are automatically billed every October for the upcoming membership cycle.
