Learning Objectives for AAOS Workers Compensation Course

At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Evaluate patients with musculoskeletal pain resulting from workplace injury and formulate a treatment plan with appropriate return-to-work guidelines
  2. Manage the administrative and legal requirements of workers’ compensation or medical liability cases
  3. Compare and contrast surgical and nonsurgical treatment protocols for workplace injuries
  4. Identify how to avoid unnecessary disability
  5. Gain familiarity with impairment evaluations and reports
  6. Improve report writing and develop new skills in office management for work-related injuries
  7. Use science to document return-to-work decisions

 

Learning Objectives for Half-Day IME/QME Course

At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Recognize the purpose of IME/QME reports
  • Establish specific steps for processing the history, record review, physical examination, and clinical studies
  • Understand how to incorporate impairment ratings into your reports
  • Determine medically necessary health care based on clinical assessment and evaluation
  • Understand causation, apportionment, basic regulations and laws
  • Improve skills in report writing, deposition and testimony
  • Create a standard format IME/QME report
  • Develop skills to defend your IME/QME report


AMA Credit Designation

AAOS designates this live activity for 24 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ for the Workers' Compensation Course and 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ for the half-day IME/QME Course. Physicians should claim only the credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
