OREF Announces 2018 Research Grants, Awards

Today at the AAOS 2018 Annual Meeting, the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) announced the recipients of 37 research grants and program awards totaling nearly $1 million.

  • One Career Development Grant to Robert Brophy, MD (co-investigator: Muhammad Farooq Rai, PhD)
  • One OREF Prospective Clinical Research Grant to Amy Morgan Cizik, PhD (co-investigator: Conor P. Klewno, MD)
  • One Clinical Research Award to Gregory B. Maletis, MD
  • Three Research Grants to Amy L. McNulty, PhD (co-investigator: William Garrett, MD); Cecilia Pascual Garrido, MD (co-investigator: Robert Brophy, MD); and Aaron Nauth, MD (co-investigator: Patrick Henry, MD) made possible by support from the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF), the Dr. Victor and Mrs. Harriet Goldberg Endowment Fund, and the Dr. and Mrs. Charles Rockwood Family Endowment Fund.

OREF received 148 grant applications requesting more than $5.7 million in funding.

OREF’s Peer Review Committee volunteers evaluated the scientific merit of each application through a rigorous peer-review process modeled after the National Institutes of Health. The applications were then ranked, and funding decisions were made by the Research Grants Committee in January.
