Academy Announces Plans to Launch JAAOS Global Research & Reviews

Open access journal welcomes content from around the world

The Academy has announced plans for a spring 2017 launch of JAAOS Global Research & Reviews, a new online journal that will serve as an open access companion title to the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS).

“The AAOS has been committed to providing excellence in orthopaedic education on the world stage for many years, and the demand for AAOS products and services on an international level continues to grow,” said AAOS President Gerald R. Williams Jr, MD. “We have dozens of agents and distributors in more than 85 countries representing AAOS.”

“JAAOS Global Research & Reviews is a natural extension of our efforts,” he continued, noting that while the journal encourages submissions from around the world, it places “a particular emphasis on content that originates outside North America, and on articles that may be especially of interest to international readers.”

The new open access journal critically evaluates and synthesizes up-to-date information on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, reflecting the current state of orthopaedic practice and patient care. The journal intends to publish review articles, research articles and clinical trials, surgical techniques, case reports, and commentary for the benefit of orthopaedic surgeons at all levels of their careers, as well as orthopaedic researchers and healthcare professionals with an interest in orthopaedics.

The journal is under the leadership of William N. Levine, MD, editor-in-chief; Jeffrey S. Fischgrund, MD, research editor; and the entire editorial board of JAAOS. All submitted manuscripts undergo rigorous peer review and must meet the same strong ethical standards as research published in JAAOS.

JAAOS Global Research & Reviews will publish high-quality original research and review articles monthly,” said Dr. Fischgrund. “The open access format allows all medical professionals with internet access to read and learn from respected authors around the globe.”

JAAOS Global Research & Reviews is open for manuscript submissions and will be published in collaboration with the Academy’s publishing partner, Wolters Kluwer.
