Resident Membership

We are pleased to have you to join the AAOS.  As an Resident Member, you can:

  • Expand your knowledge and skills with renowned educational resources, including Orthopaedic Knowledge Update (OKU), self-assessment examinations, clinical guidelines, and digital offerings.
  • Learn from the best minds and practitioners in orthopaedic medicine through our globally-valued publications and videos, including Journal of the AAOS (JAAOS), Orthopaedic Knowledge Online Journal (OKOJ), Orthopaedic Video Theater (OVT), and webinars.
  • Experience fellowship and support by connecting with other AAOS members in the U.S. and around the world, especially by attending the AAOS Annual Meeting.

Requirements: Enrolled in an approved orthopaedic (MD) or osteopathic (DO) residency or postgraduate fellowship training program in the United States and Canada.

Application process: No application to complete. All residents are enrolled as AAOS members by their program’s residency coordinator.

Recruitment period: Resident enrollment occurs between April and June of each year. Resident membership begins July 1. Please contact your residency coordinator to ensure you are enrolled by this date.
Dues & membership cycle: Free during orthopaedic residency and postgraduate fellowship training.

Membership may be retained during postgraduate fellowship training by providing program information to the Academy via the online Resident and Fellow Transition Form April through September each year. Please contact Member Services if you’ve missed the deadline.
