AAOS Board Considers Grievances Filed under the Professional Compliance Program

At its meeting on October 21, 2024, the Board of Directors of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) considered the following compliance matters not related to the AAOS Standards of Professionalism and took the action indicated.

Michael M. Taba, MD
Plano, Texas
AAOS Fellowship Suspended
In November 2023, a federal jury convicted Dr. Taba of one felony count of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and three counts of healthcare fraud for prescribing medically unnecessary compound creams to injured federal workers. In February 2024, the Texas Medical Board issued an immediate suspension of Dr. Taba’s license to practice medicine based on the felony conviction. The order and suspension remain in effect until superseded by further action of the Texas Medical Board.

The AAOS Board of Directors voted to suspend Dr. Taba’s Fellowship in AAOS until he holds a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine.
